- Won 22 ATP Tour singles titles
- Clinched ’16 Davis Cup and Argentina’s first
- Earned 20 wins over Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Andy Murray
Armed with a thundering forehand, powerful serve, and an excellent temperament for competition, Juan Martin del Potro rapidly established himself as a major factor on the ATP Tour. In 2008, while still a teenager, del Potro earned four ATP Tour singles titles, along the way compiling a 23-match winning streak.
The next year came an even bigger accomplishment – victory at the US Open, a run capped off by a 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 win over Nadal in the semis and a five-set victory versus Federer in the finals. The win made del Potro only the second Argentine male to ever win a Grand Slam singles title.
In 2016, del Potro took his homeland to its first Davis Cup title and that year also earned a silver medal in the Olympic singles competition. He also helped Argentina reached the Davis Cup finals on two other occasions (’08, ’11).
